Mediation in Jay Sean Album Covers

Mediation involves selection, organisation and focusing which are used to create a particular image for an artist.

The selection used on the album cover has an urban font which is bright blue glowing color so this makes the title of the album stand out. And it also matches with the background color the sky. It contains digital font '2012' which this highlight that his a modern man. The selection his wearing long smart coat, which this also show his modern and up to date with fashion. The photo has been taken in full body shot, which shows the characters whole body. This shot is an indirect mode of address because he is not looking at the camera. This show us that his a different person and keep things to him self. The organisation of this photo has been taken at the top of the building because this show us that he is at the top of the world and has its own power of singing. In the background it show us more building which this can also mean that they are his competitors and he has to face them. The clean sky show that his getting closer to his success. The Focusing of this image which leads to the audience is that to show that he is an very modern man because of the cloths his wearing and digital font.

I would use this picture for my front cover of my magazine. this is because he has open space arpund him on his left where I can add texts or sub headings.

Evaluation:  

In my front cover I have used the colour green most of the time, this is because it matches the background which are leaves. At the bottom of my front cover I have put some sub-headings this will tell the reader what the magazine contains. I have put my picture which is taken in middle shot and is indirect photo.

On my second page of my magazine 'Content' I have added page numbers to the pictures and to the headings. My content page is not bright as my front cover because I have used dark colours such as black colour for my background.

This technique is called juxtaposition, where you see a modern object juxtaposed with an old object. 

The shot it has been taken is a medium shot, which shows half of your body in the picture. It also shows a side profile of the character looking upwards. It also highlight that to the reader that the character in the image is giving a strong and powerful impression to the audience.

The angle of a shot it has been taken is Long shot. where this shot shows the audience the whole part of the characters figure and its background.

This picture had been taken in Close up shot. where this is zoomed in to its object or any characters face. Close up shots show you the picture in more detail.

Conclusion: 

In our class we got told to create a questionnaire with open and close questions. In my questionnaire I had 18 questions. The questionnaire was based on about music and some question about their life. I handed out 5 copies of my questionnaire, the most common answer was on the age, and all the pupils circled 15-20 of age. The mistake I had throughout the questionnaire is that I asked the question about what is there sexual preference, I wrote three options t o circle, by sexuality, Gay and Lesbian but I didn’t write Straight because I thought by sexuality is where your normal person. But I had 2 lesbians, 2 straight and 1 gay. My second popular answer was about their music genre and all of the pupils went for R&B. So this means most of the people like listening to R&B. I had question that was based on about if they have made their goals and aims in future, which can lead to their future, but unfortunately no one had set their aims because everyone said ‘No’ 5/5. I asked question about their parents life as in what they do, which was an open question for them. One of there parents is police officer that is rated C for the type of job. One of the other parents are airhostess, which this is count as C1 rated for the job. One of the parent is jeweller which is ranked C1 but it also depend what their role is in the job e.g. management. The other student’s parents are career adviser and security; these jobs are ranked as C1. And finally one of the student’s parents is taxi driver, which this is also ranked as C1. Overall I think out audience is around B and C1 social grades. And also I  examined what my audience needs and desires were according to the uses and gratifications theory. E.g. such as In the questionnaire it was included about there family and about their future plans for education.

For next time if I make another questionnaire I will add more options to circle so I can get different taste of their opinion. And double-check my options so I don’t make a mistake again.

JLS (an initialism of Jack the Lad Swing) are a British boy band, who was runners-up in the fifth series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor 2008. There are four members of this group: Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan "JB" Gill, and Oritsé Williams. They are from London & Peterborough, England. There genre is Pop and R&B, dance pop which is smiler to each other.

Jay Sean and JLS are a similar type of artists, who wear similar clothes and produce music of the same genre: R’n’B and pop music. Rhythm and blues, often abbreviated to R&B, is a genre of popular African American music that originated in the 1940s. The term was originally used by record companies to describe recordings marketed to urban African Americans, at a time when "urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular. They both wear casual and smart clothes to look good and smart. This presents a positive image to the audience.Jay Sean did not become a singer through X Factor or by entering into any competition like JLS did.  He joined Richi-Rich productions and started his career off from there.

After Jay Sean joining Richi Rich production and made a song ‘Dance with you’ which reached 12 on the UK single chart in 2003. This led to him being signed to Virgin Records and having two UK top 10 hits as a solo artist in 2004: "Eyes On You" at #6 and "Stolen" at #4. They were included in his critically-acclaimed debut album Me Against Myself which, though only moderately successful in the UK, sold more than two million copies across Asia and remains his most successful album to date.

JLS Following their appearances on The X Factor, JLS signed to Epic Records and enjoyed continued chart success throughout 2009. Their first two singles "Beat Again" and "Everybody in Love" both went to number-one on the UK Singles Chart. The band's eponymous debut album was released on 9 November 2009^, and has since sold over one million copies in the UK.   JLS won the awards for British Breakthrough.

Cloths

Jay Sean normally wears smart casual clothes. In his most of his video he is wearing a suite or very smart looking shirt, coat, or vest coat. This shows to the audience that he has good personality. This also shows he has nice attitude against other people and shows respect because smart cloths shows his more of a mature person.  It’s suggested that the smart casual wearing are for men’s. The type of cloths include are trousers—some, but not all definitions may allow jeans or chinos—a long-sleeve dress shirt (tie optional), leather loafers or dressy slip-ons, dress socks, a belt, and, if appropriate, a sport coat.

In this photo shot of Jay Sean, he is leaning against the wall. The angle of the photo shot it has been taken is medium shot, this cover half of you body in the camera. This doesn’t show the whole part of him in the picture. The photo is in not coloured it has been taken in black and white a classic style, which this allows part of the body stand out in more darker colour e.g. his top his wearing and the colour gradully start to go light in the bottom of the picture this effects the audience and make them look at his upper part of his body because it has darker effect of the colour. The character of the photo is indirect because his not looking at the camera, this shows that he is looking somewhere else or busy thinking. It also has a sahadow of his head on the wall, which this creates a effect on the pictute and make it more realistic. It also gives you a emotive representation of the character. It has white plain background to make the picture look emotive. This shows that the good side of the picture. In the picture it can also show that he has something in is hand maybe a small item which he wants to throw it away this makes the audience emotional. And this links with his face emotional too because he doesn’t look happy.

In this music picture all the members of JLS are stood up and having good time. This is because they are all smiling with joy on their face. This is a colourful part of the scene because all the members of JLS are wearing different colour jacket, which this makes them different from each other and stand themselves out. They have security behind them; this shows that how important they are and how much protected they are. In this photo it all so show that they are getting cheered by the audience because they are supporting the audience back by putting their hands up and smiling at them back. It also shows the member of JLS in the far right with blue jacket, he has a bottle in his hand, and this shows that they have being coming out from a club and also the lights behind them shows they are coming from a posh place which include a hotel or a nightclub. The camera shot it has been taken is medium shot. This shows the half of the characters body in the picture. The characters of the photo are looking indirect and direct. Most of them are looking somewhere else such as looking at the audience and one of them is looking direct to the camera.
